This engineer's daughter has always thought particle physics is damn sexy, but I'll be the first to admit that the concepts can be difficult to grasp (to say the least). Mark Levinson's riveting new documentary Particle Fever succeeds not only in making some recent advanced theories in the field accessible, but it also captures the very real thrills that have transpired over the last few years in the search for the Higgs boson. The theoretical and experimental physicists are the bona fide heroes in this documentary, and it's hard not experience awe at what they have created in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva. Add in masterful editing by the great Walter Murch, mesmerizing animations by Kansas City outfit MK12, and a quirky and inspiring cast of characters who are not afraid of failure even as they strive for knowledge. I guarantee you too will be exhilarated.
