I was very curious to see if Jiro Dreams of Sushi would kindle any desire in my heart (or stomach) to revert to pescetarianism. It did not, because poor overfished fishes. I still thoroughly enjoyed David Gelb's thoughtful documentary though as it introduces us to Jiro Ono and his most exquisite sushi. Along the way we meet Jiro's two sons (both also sushi chefs) and his dedicated apprentices, visit the amazing Tsukiji Fish Market, and hear a very persuasive case for sustainability. There are so many beautiful details throughout the film too, like the variety of tasks going on back in the kitchen or the food-porn close-ups on the sushi itself. Fish-eater or no, it's an utterly captivating viewing experience.
