Sorry that I'm a little late posting the inspiration this month; I blame the fabulous whirlwind birthday weekend I just had, full of friends and food and yes even some rampant debauchery. In honor of my beloved East Bay this time I'm going to list all of the excellent stuff I saw at Friday night's Oakland Art Murmur on a night where the rain stopped long enough for a really wonderful stroll through the streets. You can play along too: please leave something that is currently making you happy in this post's comments (it need not be Oakland-related), and we will all enjoy.
My inspiration:
- Gaby Wolodarski's fantastic solo show at Hatch Gallery, complete with a live performance by one of my fave local musicians Inca Ore
- Keer Tanchak and Christina Corfield's playful paintings and videos in their Johansson Projects show
- Installations by Elisheva Biernoff and Luther Thie at the Pro Arts at Oakland Art Gallery
- Fellow KALX DJ Craig Baxter's rad handmade matchbook-magnets. I bought a State Electric Supply one.
- A show on John Benson's bus with Gaze and the always-awesome Chen Santa Maria. CSM is about to head off on a European tour for a month, but first they'll be at 21 Grand tomorrow night with Former Ghosts and Amir Coyle so you know where I'll be too.
Your inspiration, from last month:
- Handknit superhero costumes by Mark Newport
- The "Domesticated" series by photographer Amy Stein
