Before there were blue cat people on Pandora there was a big blue monster named Sully. I recently watched Monsters, Inc. for the first time since I saw it in the theater back in the day (almost ten years ago, yikes), and it just reinforced for me all over again what expert world-builders those geniuses at Pixar are. From the nixie tubes of Monstropolis's digital displays to the six-armed octopus sushi chef at restaurant Harryhausen, the film is absolutely chock full of details and nerdy inside jokes that make me smile. I know Pixar films often follow a very familiar plot trajectory, but I've said it before and I'll say it again that sometimes it's just nice to know everything is going to turn out OK in the end. And I think Boo might be one of my all-time favorite animated characters. "Kitty!" Now bring on the sequel please.
