Skipped the Big Ugly Review Issue #5 release party at Varnish last night, even though it sounded like a riotous good time, due to an attack of the Tuesday Night Blues which just made me want to curl up at home with a pile of kitties on top of me. But hey, at least I was productive: my bedroom is clean and my living room is getting there. And yay, only 2 weeks until my Chicago trip. I can't wait to get out of town for a bit.
from the Booksmith:
"Special Topics in Calamity Physics, the mesmerizing debut novel from Marisha Pessl, features a narrator as distinctive as Holden Caulfield and a plot as complex as a Hitchcock film. Structured around a Great Works of Literature class & containing visual aids (drawn by the author!), this new novel is complex yet compelling, erudite yet accessible. This new novel, uncannily uniting the trials of a postmodern upbringing with a murder mystery, heralds the arrival of a vibrant new voice in literary fiction."
I am very keen to read Ms Pessl's book!
Secretary of Name-Calling:
Donald Rumsfeld has a new name for war critics: appeasers of fascism. Doesn't he think the 63 percent of the country who view the Iraq war as "not worth it" know their history as well as he?
