Through September 12 - 5Corners at [ 2nd floor projects ]. If summer is traditionally the time of group shows this is the one you should squeeze in yet before fall truly takes hold as Margaret Tedesco has filled the walls, the hallway, virtually every nook and cranny of her space with top-notch art. There are collaborative pieces constructed by Pam Martin and Matt Gordon; a hand-painted sign by Cliff Hengst tucked into an indentation in the wall; Wayne Smith's riffs on found paintings; a new video by Charlene Tan that uses ube powder to beautiful effect; a couple of perfect kitties by Scott Hewicker as well as some more abstract pieces; a series of delicate miniatures that are actually stamp replicas by Anne McGuire; a small portrait of George Kuchar by Curt McDowell that could be a Rembrandt; cheeky sexual fantasias by George's twin brother Mike; a giant scroll by Amanda Kirkhuff that manages to be nostalgic and pornographic at the same time. Find all of this and more, including an edition by Brandon Brown in which he uses the objects on his own walls as a jumping-off point for stories and reminisces. Do get over there during open hours on Wednesday, and see if you can guess which piece I bought.
