Recently closed - Mitzi Pederson: Ciphers at Ratio 3. Pictures can only begin to capture how beautiful these pieces were in person, tulle stretched across frames and daubed with glitter and sand or hung from pins an inch or two from the gallery wall the better to cast subtle shadows. One ephemeral curtain of fabric was such a sheer blue that the color only revealed itself in the bends and folds of the material. Occasionally sticks spackled in a silver shimmer would appear suspended in the tulle, paradoxically defying gravity and grounding the work at the same time. Pederson's total commitment to her materials and to a minimalist aesthetic made this show a breath of clear air.
